Kids' Connection:
SHAC supports the Kids' Connection afterschool program at Faribault Middle School in partnership with 21st CCLC. Kids' Connection meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during the school year from 2:45- 4:45pm. The first hour of the program is dedicated to learning. Students in need of homework help work one-on-one with college tutors. Students without homework have the choice of reading, writing, or learning English or another language with Rosetta Stone. During the second hour of the program, students participate in enriching clubs such as 4-H Leadership, J-STOPS community service, STEM activities with Shattuck St. Mary's students, cooking, or crafts. Kids' Connection is free and transportation home is provided at the end of each session.
Adult Rosetta Stone Classes:
Starting in January of 2012 SHAC will be helping to provide Rosetta Stone to adults in the community who wish to improve their English. In addition to working with Rosetta Stone, adults in the program will also be able to practice their conversational English with English-speaking volunteers. These sessions will be help at Faribault Middle School on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Childcare and transportation will be provided.
College Ambitions Start Today (CAST):
SHAC is proud to be a partnering member of CAST- Faribault's new college access program. CAST aims to make high school graduation and post-secondary education options for every Faribault student by streamlining and supplementing the support students get in school. Additionally, CAST provides mentoring opportunities, individualized academic support, and college and career counseling. Funded through the Faribault Public School's integrated district grant, CAST is a great example of a partnership between the public schools and the community.
